young I’m a green senator from South Australia. hi I’m Penny Wong, the
opposition leader in the Senate in Australia. G’day I’m Richard Di Natale, leader of the Australian Greens. Make history. Bring World Pride down south for the very first time. Sydney’s at the heart of the Asia Pacific, home to 60% of the world’s population. Sydney is the place to do it. Sydney’s
famous Mardi Gras, which has been running for 40 years Is an outstanding event. It’s a celebration of diversity, of love and inclusion and it’s a celebration of Australian values that we all hold dear. And bring World Pride to Sydney because we live in the fastest growing region in the world, the Asia-Pacific. So having world Pride here would ensure
that we grow the World Pride family and would be of benefit to the LGBTQ
community in our region. Sydney is a city as well that has such success at hosting international events. The Sydney Olympic Games sold 6.7 million tickets. Each year the Sydney Vivid light festival has more than 2 million visitors who come and participate. It would be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate five years since Australia has had marriage equality Something the whole country has
gotten behind and celebrated. It’s a city of fun, it’s a city of vibrancy, but it’s a city also that is deeply committed to respect for all of its individuals
from all of their backgrounds and truly embodies the Australian principles of
mateship and inclusion and tolerance. So I’m here to say bring World Pride to Sydney in 2023. Sydney for World Pride 2023.
